20 Years Later, Sequel In The Works For Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khakee’
Summary: Confirmation of a sequel to the 2004 Blockbuster ‘Khakee’ with Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tusshar Kapoor, and Ajay Devgn; the original surpassed Rs 500 Crore in box office earnings.
Nearly two decades after its initial release, a sequel to the star-studded film 'Khakee' is in the works. The announcement was made by actor-filmmaker Aryeman Ramsay during an interview with News18. Aryeman Ramsay, the son of the late producer Keshu Ramsay, who was a key figure behind the original film, shared this exciting development.
As per Aryeman's statement to the publication, he confirmed, "Indeed, we are in the process of developing a sequel to 'Khakee.' We are currently in the scripting phase and have a preliminary storyline in mind. Our goal is to commence filming next year, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the original film, which continues to hold a special place in the hearts of fans and viewers."
However, Aryeman remained tight-lipped about specific details, adding, "The script is entirely new, set in the present day, and will also incorporate elements from the original film for a seamless continuation."
In response to inquiries regarding the cast of the sequel, Aryeman stated, "Our family shares a close bond with Akshay sir, but regrettably, his character meets an untimely end in the first installment, making it challenging to include him. Ajay sir (Ajay Devgn) and Aishwarya's characters also meet a similar fate in the film. As soon as I finalize the script, I plan to approach Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) for his involvement. I am also keen on having Tusshar Kapoor reprise his role in the movie. In addition to these actors, we will be introducing a fresh cast. I've already spoken to Rajkumar Santoshji, and I'm determined to have him direct the sequel."
In January 2004, 'Khakee' was released, narrating the tale of an Indian police squad tasked with the mission of transferring a Pakistani spy from a remote town in Maharashtra to a prison in Mumbai. The film achieved immense success and secured the fifth spot among the highest-grossing films of the year.
Following its success, 'Khakee' was remade in Telugu as 'Satyameva Jeyathe,' featuring Rajasekhar, Sivaji, Nitu Chandra, and Sheryl Pinto in the lead roles.
