Barroz Box Office Collection: Mohanlal’s Directorial Debut

Summary: At Rs 3.6 crore, Mohanlal's directorial debut has a dismal start.

Barroz, the Christmas Day release of Mohanlal's directorial debut, opened with a dismal box office, particularly considering it was a holiday release. The movie earned Rs 3.65 crore on its opening day, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

The opening number is even more disheartening because it has been rumored that the movie was made on an estimated budget of Rs 100 crore, which is quite hefty for a Malayalam film.

Mohanlal directs Barroz, which stars the Malayalam actor in the titular character. The 64-year-old plays Barroz, da Gama's Malabari slave, and the film also stars Maya Rao West as Isa Ron / Isabella da Gama, Tuhin Menon as Ron Madhav, a merchant, Cesar Lorente Raton, Ignacio Mateos, Kallirroi Tziafeta, and Nerea Camacho, among others.

The plot revolves around Berroz, a 400-year-old spirit assigned to protect D'Gama's treasures, who has been waiting to transfer them over to a genuine D'Gama descendent.

Barroz saw 57.22 percent Malayalam occupancy on the first day. Thiruvananthapuram saw 114 showings with 52.5 percent occupancy, while Kochi saw 127 showings with 68.75 percent occupancy.

Compared to Mohanlal's last release, Malaikottai Vaaliban, which debuted at Rs 5.65 crore but only managed to earn about Rs 14 crore at the domestic box office, the film's opening is significantly lower.

Barroz is up against Pushpa 2: The Rule, which is still going strong in its third week, and Mufasa: The Lion King, which has been released in India in several languages.
