Since the debut of Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva (2022), rumors have circulated regarding Ranveer Singh potentially stepping into the role of Dev in the sequel to Ayan Mukerji's film. Earlier speculations also mentioned Hrithik Roshan or Kannada actor Yash for the part, but no official confirmation had been provided. According to a News18 report, Ranveer has now officially agreed to portray the highly-anticipated character in the film. Dev was introduced as the antagonist towards the conclusion of Brahmastra.

As per a source quoted by the portal, "Ranveer Singh has officially secured the role of Dev. The deal has been confirmed. While the scripting for the second part is still underway, the film is anticipated to commence production in 2025. Currently, Ayan is engrossed in War 2, and Ranveer is set to start shooting for Baiju Bawra this year. The exact commencement date for Brahmastra 2 is yet to be determined.”

"If everything goes as planned, Ranveer is set to commence shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Baiju Bawra by mid-2024. Initially, the plan was for the Brahmastra 2 shoot to kick off in early 2025. However, recent developments suggest that Don 3 will also begin filming around the same time. It's highly probable that Ranveer will prioritize shooting for Don 3 before commencing work on Brahmastra 2," stated the source.

It marks a significant occasion as two real-life Bollywood couples, Ranbir Kapoor-Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone, collaborate for the first time in a film. In Brahmastra, Deepika takes on the role of Amrita, the mother of Ranbir Kapoor's character.

The Indian audience was introduced to a new Astraverse with the release of Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. With key roles played by Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy, the film emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of 2022. Shah Rukh Khan also made an extended cameo appearance. Since its September 2022 debut, fans have eagerly speculated about the actor portraying Dev, Shiva's father, in the movie.
