Automotive Air Spring Damper is a crucial component in modern vehicle suspension systems, designed to enhance ride comfort, handling, and stability. It combines two primary elements: air springs and dampers (shock absorbers), working together to absorb and control the forces and vibrations that arise when a vehicle travels over uneven surfaces or experiences dynamic movements such as acceleration, braking, or cornering.The automotive air spring damper converts mechanical energy into internal energy through the reciprocating motion of the internal fluid, which results in the dissipation of vertical vibration energy. Active air suspensions usually use variable damping dampers in combination with air springs to achieve active adjustment of suspension damping and stiffness at the same time. Variable damping dampers are mainly classified into Continuous Damping Control (CDC) and Magnetic Ride Control (MRC).The value of an air suspension system is currently around US$1,000-2,000 per vehicle, of which the damper is around US$300-500, accounting for about 29%. Upstream raw materials for dampers include steel, aluminium and rubber. Major suppliers of electronic components and sensors for dampers with intelligent adjustment functions include Bosch and Continental. The downstream supply chain mainly consists of automotive OEMs. As a key suspension component, dampers are supplied directly to automakers and installed in mass-produced vehicles. Major customers include global OEMs such as Volkswagen, General Motors, Toyota and BMW. In addition, performance upgraded dampers are also available in the automotive aftermarket to meet the needs of different customers. Common distributors include AutoZone, NAPA Auto Parts, and others.Today the majority of new cars in the luxury and upper middle class range, including some Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) , have air suspension. The volume of the air in the air cushions in all corners of the car can be controlled. This is done by controlling the flow of the air in and out of the additional air reservoirs. The system includes a special air compressor, one or two air reservoirs, four shock absorber units with air springs and traditional shock absorbers, 2 to 5 stand-alone accelerometers and the electronic control unit (ECU) .
