Report Overview

Report Overview
Nitrogen Rejection Unit (NRU) separates and vents Nitrogen (N2) to the atmosphere, while returning recovered hydrocarbon streams to the main liquefaction process or routing to fuel. A Nitrogen Rejection Unit (NRU) is a critical piece of infrastructure in natural gas processing. It is used to remove nitrogen from natural gas to meet pipeline specifications or to improve the heating value of the gas. Most pipeline standards require that natural gas contain less than 4% nitrogen. High-nitrogen natural gas is essentially stranded, as it cannot feasibly be transported through pipelines to market. If there is too much nitrogen present in a pipeline, there is a danger of vapor lock or poor combustion. Nitrogen is non-combustible and dilutes the heating value of natural gas, so its removal increases the quality and value of the gas. With the development of the global energy market, especially the rapid growth of the natural gas and liquefied natural gas industries, the demand for denitrification units is also growing. Excessive nitrogen content in natural gas can affect combustion performance, reduce energy efficiency, and even have an adverse effect on downstream processes. Therefore, denitrification technology, as an important means to improve the quality of natural gas and ensure efficient use of energy, is receiving more and more attention. At present, the global denitrification unit market is mainly dominated by countries rich in oil and natural gas resources, especially in the Middle East, North America, Russia and China. The development of natural gas and oil resource extraction and liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry in these countries has promoted the demand for denitrification units. In these countries, natural gas usually contains a high proportion of nitrogen, which makes denitrification units a key equipment for improving natural gas quality and ensuring energy security. The nitrogen content in natural gas directly affects the calorific value of the gas and the downstream processing process. Natural gas with too high nitrogen content in many cases needs to be denitrified to meet the needs of industrial production. Therefore, the application of denitrification units in LNG production facilities has become one of the main factors driving market growth. In addition, with the increasingly stringent environmental regulations, the impact of natural gas quality on the environment is also increasing. Denitrification devices can not only improve the calorific value and combustion performance of natural gas, but also effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve fuel efficiency. In this context, the market demand for denitrification devices is gradually increasing.Global 5 largest manufacturers of Nitrogen Rejection Unit are Chart Industries, ConocoPhillips and Linde Engineering, which make up over 50%. North America is the largest market, holding a share over 45%. There are two types of technology used in the natural gas industry to remove nitrogen from natural gas streams, including Warm Nitrogen Rejection Units and Cold Nitrogen Rejection Units. The leading type is Cold Nitrogen Rejection Unit, with a market share over 70%. In terms of application, Nitrogen Rejection Unit is mainly used in raw natural gas and renewable natural gas. The largest segment is renewable natural gas, accounting for nearly 70%.

The global Nitrogen Rejection Units market size was estimated at USD 1925.0 million in 2025 and is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.30% during the forecast period.
