CSK vs RCB: First Match of the Season and CSK Swept Away the Season Opener From RCB

Summary: Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challenger Bangalore with their all-round performance by six wickets in the season opener.

In the TATA IPL 2024 season opener, CSK beat RCB by six wickets. Ruturaj Gaikwad, the promising captain of CSK, gave a winning start to the season. RCB failed to kick-start their opening match. RCB gave a target of 173/6. After RCB won the toss, their captain, Faf Du Plessis, chose to bat first, and unfortunately, his batting order collapsed at 78/5.

After the dismissal of Virat Kohli, all hopes were lost, but all credit goes to Anuj Rawat and Dinesh Karthik, who pulled the match from the pits and gave RCB the score of 173/6. The opening batters of CSK, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravin Rachindra, gave a powerful start to the innings. Gaikwad, however, fell prey to Yash Dayal, who’s an impact player for Dinesh Karthik. But Rachin Ravindra continued his batting with the same energy, scoring 37 off 15 balls, along with Ajinkya Rahane, who also played well for the team.

Rahane later got dismissed for the stunning catch by Glenn Maxwell at 27 off 19. CSK scored 62 runs in the powerplay itself, which was an excellent start. As for the bowlers, Mustafizur Rahman was the standout bowler for CSK with his four-wicket haul. He dismissed all the top-order batters, including Faf du Plessis, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, and Virat Kohli.

However, CSK, with their solid top order as well as middle order, easily scored 176/4 in just 18.4 overs with the contributions of Ravin Rachindra, who made 37 off 15, Ajinkya Rahane (27 off 19), Shivam Dube, 34 off 28 (not out), and Ravindra Jadeja, 25 off 17 (not out).
