RCB Women’s Team Wins their Maiden WPL Title: Beats Delhi Capitals by 8 Wickets
Summary: Royal Challengers Bangalore wins their first-ever title for the franchise after a wait of 16 years.
“Ee Saala Cup Naamde” has been RCB’s slogan for years; their fans have waited 16 years for the trophy in the IPL, and now finally the wait is over, but with the WPL, which is a huge thing. Royal Challengers Bangalore, a team with the most loyal fan following, won their maiden WPL title after a long wait of 16 years.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Smriti Mandhana, defeated the Delhi Capitals with powerful performances by 8 wickets and put the first-ever victory to their name on Sunday, March 17, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Shreyanka Patil and Sophie Molineux, with their spell-binding spin attack, broke DC’s back.
DC was playing 64-0 when Molineux came and claimed three wickets in one over. She sent back Shefali Sharma, Jemmimah Rodrigues, and Alice Capsey, all the top-order batters who could have been dangerous for RCB.
Delhi Capital were only able to make 113 all out after the speedy collapse of their batting order. The bowler made it easy for RCB batters to chase the target of 114, leading them to their maiden title win.
Skippers Smriti Mandhana, Sophie Devine, and Ellyse Perry made significant contributions to the game and made it a comfortable win for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Smriti Mandhana’s WPL team achieved what the men's IPL team couldn’t do in their first-ever finals in the second season of the WPL.
Smriti Mandhana with her 31 off 39 balls, Sophie Devine with 32 off 27 balls, and Ellyse Perry with her 35 off 37 balls made it a smooth win for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Sophie Molineux was named the player of the match with a ground-breaking spin attack against DC.
