Zelensky has been promoting his own country's demands for peace with Russia while attempting to stay on Trump's side and retain US backing.
Using his Truth Social post, Trump praised the Russian ruler, claiming that Putin "even used my very strong Campaign motto of, 'COMMON SENSE.'" and expressing gratitude to him for releasing Fogel.
Russia rejected Zelensky's proposal to exchange occupied land this week, just hours after he launched a new round of missiles and drones on Kyiv.
The Ukrainian leader stated that he intended to clinch an economic accord with Washington during his Friday meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Vice President JD Vance on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
