BCCI accepts Gautam Gambhir’s demands and will soon announce him as the head coach
Summary: After being approached by the BCCI, Gautam Gambhir accepted the offer but had a few conditions that the board met.
Former opening batsman Gautam Gambhir's selection as head coach of the Indian men's cricket team is almost certain. Gambhir has been in talks for the India coaching post for months, with current coach Rahul Dravid's contract scheduled to end after the T20 World Cup.
According to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, BCCI will confirm Gambhir's appointment in the coming days. After being asked by the BCCI, Gambhir accepted the offer but put in a few conditions, to which the board agreed.
The veteran cricketer, who played a key role in India's victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and 2011 ODI World Cup, has reportedly shown interest in the highly esteemed position on one condition: he wants the power to appoint his own support staff.
"We have spoken with Gambhir about being the head coach of the Indian team. He will replace Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup," a BCCI source informed Dainik Bhaskar.
According to the source, Gambhir told the BCCI that he would accept the job if he was given control over the support personnel. His demand was met, and the board will make an official statement about Gambhir's hiring as head coach later this month.
During the tenure of Ravi Shastri as head coach, Sanjay Bangar was replaced as batting coach by Vikram Rathour. Even when Dravid took Shastri's position as head coach, Rathour maintained his position on the support staff.
Gambhir outlines a clear vision for Indian cricket's future in his demand. By requesting the freedom to select his support team, Gambhir hopes to guarantee that his coaching principles and techniques are applied efficiently.
He thinks that doing this is essential to keeping things orderly and getting the desired outcomes on the field.
