Dinesh Karthik’s Frank Opinion About India’s Captain Rohit Sharma Before The World Cup: ‘Rohit Sharma Is Always In A Hurry…’
Summary: Dinesh Karthik, a close friend of Rohit Sharma, expressed that the Indian skipper has significantly evolved his playing style.
When India last won the ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma, though thrilled for his team, carried a sense of regret. He was omitted from the 2011 ICC event, where India triumphed at home. Since then, India hasn't won an ICC trophy, and Rohit's journey as captain is discussed by veteran wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik.
Karthik, who participated in India's T20 World Cup in Australia last year, noted that Rohit might be preparing for his last ODI World Cup appearance. After being left out of India's 2011 World Cup squad, Rohit has played in two 50-over World Cups. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, Rohit emerged as India's top run-scorer, registering five centuries during the tournament.
"He (Rohit Sharma) is destined for greatness and has achieved a remarkable career. In many respects, this ODI World Cup could mark his final appearance. We've been incredibly close friends, and our journey as players and individuals has been intertwined," Karthik shared with Cricbuzz. Rohit, entrusted with the mission to end India's 12-year drought for an ODI world title in 50-over cricket, led the Men In Blue to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup last year in Australia, making his debut in an ICC event.
Under Rohit's captaincy, India reached the final of the ICC World Test Championship, although Australia emerged as the champions. Dinesh Karthik noted that Rohit has a loving family and values his roots, maintaining friendships from two decades ago. Rohit led India to their eighth Asia Cup title ahead of the ICC World Cup. Unfortunately, rain washed out all of India's World Cup warm-up matches in Guwahati and Thiruvananthapuram. Rohit was rested for the first two ODIs in India's final series against Australia before the World Cup, returning to score a brisk 81 off 57 balls in the 3rd ODI at Rajkot.
