The third Test in the current five-match series between Australia and India concluded in a draw at The Gabba in Brisbane, on Wednesday. Heavy rains affected the last four days of the match, day 2 was spared.

 

India was dismissed for 260 runs in 78.5 overs after the Australians scored 445 runs in the first inning, but the visitors were able to avoid the follow-on.

 

The Indian team was given a target of 275 to win the game, and they reached 8/0 before the game was stopped with four runs each from Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul. As both teams aim to gain an advantage in the forthcoming Boxing Day Test match in Melbourne, the five-match series is now tied at one.

 

Australia made one last drive for victory after taking the last India wicket four overs into the day's play and securing a 185-run advantage in the first innings. 

 

Rohit Sharma's team lost their ninth batsman for 213 runs, however, Akash Deep and Jasprit Bumrah had 47 runs partnership off 78 balls to secure India's tenth wicket.

 

Australia gave it all but lost wickets quickly in the process, and declared at 89 for 7 after eighteen tense third-inning overs. India was therefore left with a possible 54-over target of 275. 

 

Bad light forced the players from the field before rain returned, signaling an early finish, leaving only 2.1 possible.

 

Although its PCT has fallen to 55.88, India, which began the match with 57.29 PCT%, has held onto its third-place ranking in the WTC 2023-25 points table. However, Australia's PCT has also decreased, falling from 60.71 to 58.89.
