On Friday, October 6, India secured a spot in the men's cricket final at the Asian Games 2023 by defeating Bangladesh with a convincing nine-wicket victory in the semifinals at the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field in Hangzhou. In the championship match, they will compete against the winner of the contest between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Since winning the toss and electing to bat, the Indian team encountered no setbacks. To begin with, the Men in Blue limited the Tigers to a score of 96 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sai Kishore's performance was exceptional, to say the least, as he concluded with figures of 4-0-12-3. The left-arm spinner made key breakthroughs by dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Afif Hossain Dhrubo, and Shahadat Hossain Dipu.
Washington Sundar added to the challenge for the Bangladesh batsmen by claiming the wickets of Saif Hassan and Zakir Hasan during the final over of the powerplay.
Among the Tigers, Parvez Hossain Emon contributed 23 runs off 32 deliveries before Tilak Varma dismissed him. Jaker Ali Anik remained unbeaten with 24 runs from 29 balls. Nevertheless, it was Rakibul Hasan's brief innings of 14 runs off six balls that propelled Bangladesh towards the 100-run milestone.
Ripon Mondal provided Bangladesh with a glimmer of hope by taking an early wicket, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, from that point onward, Tilak Varma and Ruturaj Gaikwad seized control of the match, swiftly moving it out of the Tigers' reach. The duo formed a rapid fifty partnership in just 18 balls, turning the game into a one-sided affair.
Varma achieved his half-century in 25 deliveries and remained unbeaten with 55 runs off 26 balls, including two fours and six sixes. Gaikwad, on the other hand, contributed an undefeated 40 runs off 26 balls, featuring four fours and three sixes. India comfortably achieved the target with a remarkable 64 balls to spare.
