Indian Women’s Team start T20I series on a high with a comfortable win over Sri Lanka

Summary: Indian Women cruise to an easy win over Sri Lanka in the first T20I at Visakhapatnam.

India Women got off to a great start in their T20I series against Sri Lanka, winning by eight wickets in the first match at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The game was one-sided, and India dominated from the beginning.

Sri Lanka asked to bat first, struggled to gain momentum, and ended up finishing at 121 for 6 after 20 overs. Vishmi Gunaratne provided some resistance with a solid knock, but the rest of the batting lineup struggled to break clear.

India's bowlers clung to their plans, kept things tight, and did not allow large partnerships to form. Smart field placements and disciplined bowling ensured Sri Lanka never posed a serious threat with the bat.

The chase was easy and confident. India's openers laid a solid base before Jemimah Rodrigues took control of the innings. Playing with calm assurance, she executed her stroke perfectly and finished undefeated on 69, leading India home without any late drama. Her shot selection and ability to find gaps made the target look far smaller than it actually was.

India reached the target in just 14.4 overs, losing only two wickets along the way. The ease of the win underlined the depth in the batting lineup and the balance of the side. Rodrigues’ innings rightly earned her the Player of the Match award.

With this victory, India takes a 1–0 lead in the series and sends out a clear message early on. The team will now look to carry this momentum into the remaining matches, while Sri Lanka will need to regroup quickly to stay competitive in the series.
