Kohli, Rohit Unlikely to Play For Vijay Hazare Trophy Due to Packed Schedule

Summary: BCCI would like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but it's quite unlikely because of scheduling issues.

Despite rumors that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wants Indian cricket greats Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to participate in this year's Vijay Hazare Trophy, they are not expected to.

Reports suggest, the board views the domestic 50-over competition as a valuable way to keep the senior duo in ODI rhythm, particularly with the 2027 Cricket World Cup still in sight. However, the calendar tells a different story.

The tournament begins on December 24, but both Kohli and Rohit will already be heavily involved in India’s international schedule. The New Zealand ODI series—slated for January 11, 14, and 18—falls right in the middle of the VHT, making their availability difficult.

Adding to this, the BCCI appears to be prioritising India A matches for the pair over domestic fixtures. These games, designed to groom emerging talent and assess senior players’ form, are reportedly being given more weight than Vijay Hazare appearances.

While the BCCI hopes to see the two veterans stay match-ready, selectors are aware that their focus may lie elsewhere. With the ODI team’s packed commitments, squeezing in domestic cricket could be impractical for both.

For now, fans may have to wait longer to see Kohli and Rohit back in a domestic one-day jersey.
