Shubman Gill Ruled Out of Second Test vs South Africa Due to Neck Injury
Summary: India captain Shubman Gill will miss the second Test in Guwahati after a neck injury. Rishabh Pant is set to lead the side in his absence.
In a major blow to India’s plans, captain Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second Test against South Africa due to a recurring neck injury.
Sources say he is now set to fly home for further medical treatment and recovery.
Gill first picked up the injury during the first match in Kolkata, where he suffered a neck spasm while batting and was forced to retire hurt.
Though he had traveled with the team to Guwahati, reports confirmed that he did not train ahead of the match, sparking doubts about his availability.
Team India’s medical staff reportedly decided there was a real risk of the spasm recurring if he played, which prompted the decision to rest him rather than gamble on his fitness.
In Gill’s absence, Rishabh Pant will lead the team in Guwahati. For his spot in the batting order, Sai Sudharsan is tipped to make a comeback.
