VVS Laxman, National Cricket Academy Chief Will Coach the Indian Cricket Team in Hangzhou During Asian Games 2023

Due to an overlapping schedule with the 50-over World Cup being held in India, VVS Laxman, the chief of the National Cricket Academy and a former Indian batsman, will serve as the head coach of the Indian team in the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September–October. Rituraj Gaikwad is leading the BCCI's B team, which is competing in the Asian Games. Laxman will also fill in for Rahul Dravid for the three-match T20 series against Ireland next month because the BCCI had opted to give Dravid a break following the current West Indies series.

After the series in the West Indies, the support personnel will also receive a break, similar to Dravid. In addition to Dravid, the other coaches taking a break before the Asia Cup are Vikram Rathour, Paras Mhambrey, and T Dilip. They have a lengthy series (in the West Indies), and it was decided that VVS should accompany the team because the Irish team is probably only going to be a backup. He will also serve as the Asian Games' coach, a BCCI official announced.

The West Indies series consists of five T20 matches, three ODIs, and two Test matches. In Florida, USA, the T20 series' final two games will take place. Laxman will serve as the Indian team's interim head coach once more. Laxman took over for the New Zealand series after the Indian team's T20 World Cup semifinal defeat the previous year.

The team for the Ireland series has not yet been chosen by the national selection committee. Ajit Agarkar, the recently appointed chairman of the selection committee, will soon depart for the West Indies. He will discuss the 50-over World Cup schedule with the Indian team management, including coach Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma
