13 Civilians Killed, 59 Injured in Pakistan's Shelling Along LoC in Poonch

Summary: On May 8, 2025, Pakistan broke the truce along the Line of Control in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, killing 13 civilians and wounding 59 more.

The conflict intensified after the Pakistani forces broke the truce along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch region of Jammu & Kashmir on May 8, 2025. This careless act resulted in 13 civilian deaths and 59 injuries, making it one of the deadliest ceasefire violations in recent times.

The shelling targeted several villages, causing significant damage to homes and infrastructure. The Indian Army responded well to the aggression, seeking to neutralise the threat and avoid additional civilian losses.

This incident took place after India launched a series of precision attacks against terrorist facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7 as part of Operation Sindoor. The operation was a retaliation for the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which killed 26 civilians.

Authorities have taken preventive measures amid the growing geopolitical tensions. They have closed the schools in five border districts in the Jammu region. The international community expressed concern about the growing fatalities and urged both nations to exercise caution and engage in diplomatic talks to prevent further escalation.
