24 Indian Airports Closed Amid Pakistan's Missile and Drone Attacks
Summary: India shuts 24 airports in the north and west amid rising tensions with Pakistan after missile and drone strikes, the flights are cancelled, and security has been increased.
In retaliation for Pakistan's missile and drone attacks on Indian territory, India closed down 24 airports in its northern and western districts till May 10, 2025. The Civil Aviation Ministry acknowledged the closures of vital airports in Amritsar, Srinagar, and Pathankot.
Major airlines, such as IndiGo and Air India, have cancelled hundreds of flights and redirected several foreign routes.
The closures follow India's Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes launched on May 7 on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was a response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror assault, which killed 26 civilians.
Because of the growing tensions, authorities have encouraged passengers to be at airports at least three hours before their scheduled departure times. The situation remains tense, with both countries on high alert and international leaders urging caution to avoid further escalation.
