Eric Garcetti, the American Ambassador to India Says that the US and India Relationship is Important to the World

Eric Garcetti, the newly sworn-in US Ambassador to India is a close aide to President Joe Biden and stated that India and the US relationship is critical for each other and the world. And never before had both nations worked so closely regarding several issues as now, they do. The comments came from Garcetti when he was addressing prominent Indian Americans’ gathering at the US-India Summit, organized by Michael Waltz and Ro Khanna, the Co-chairs of the Congressional India Caucus.
The appointment of Garcetti was pending since July 2021 before the US Congress. However, in March 2022, he was finally confirmed after the concerns about his handling of sexual harassment and assault against a former senior adviser, were raised. Garcetti had a word with President Biden before coming to India about his vision for the partnership between the US and India. He had stressed the pivotal nature of the moment for not just both the nations but the globe.
Garcetti said that only a few relationships today in the world are more important to India and the US. And in the world, their relationship was crucial to the future. He stated that the US and India are two of the world’s leading democracies and largest economies. Both nations need to maintain a good relationship, and President Biden has also said that the two nations are indispensable partners.
India and the US are committed to progress and innovation and share the 21st century by working on various issues closely. He added that they are empowered by and connected through the innovative spirit of the people. Since January 2021, there has been no ambassador at the US Embassy in India. This is the longest duration in the India-US relations wherein the post had stayed empty. Kenneth Juster, the last US envoy in New Delhi had resigned after the American government had changed. The appointment of Garcetti is thus, an important development in the relationship of the US and India.
