Gujarat Bus Rams Into SUV, 9 Dead and 28 Severely Injured

 

This Saturday morning, a bus filled with passengers returning from Surat crashed into a Toyota Fortuner car after the driver lost control of the vehicle due to a heart attack. The bus occupants were coming from Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi Mahotsav event, and the incident took place on the Navsari National Highway number 48. The luxury bus was reportedly going to Valsad from Surat.

8 of the 9 people in the car died on the sport, while 28 persons from the bus were injured, out of which 11 were shifted to a private hospital. The bus driver passed away at the hospital. PM Modi was at the inaugural function to address the event in Ahmedabad on 14 December 2022. The Pramukh Swami Maharaj Shatabdi began on 15 December and will go up to 15 January 2023.

According to Navsari Superintendent of Police (SP) Rushikesh Upadhyay, the SUV was approaching the opposite direction, when the accident happened near Vesma village. The SUV travelers were residents of Ankleshwar, Gujarat. All of them were returning to Valsad, their hometown. The bus passengers were also from Valsad. The accident caused a disruption of traffic on the highway. And the police had to get the bus taken off the road with the help of a crane.

Shri. Narendra Modi ji announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lahks for the next kin of the deceased from the PMNRF. He also said that the injured people each will receive Rs. 50,000 as compensation. The PM also expressed grief in a tweet that he is pained by the loss of lives because of the horrific road accident in Navsari. He conveyed that his thoughts are with the bereaved families.

Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister tweeted in Gujarati that the local administration is taking care of the injured by giving immediate treatment and that he is heartbroken over the road accident in Navsari. He also sent condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed to God to give them strength in this moment of pain.
