Adani Group Engages Trump Officials To Resolve US Bribery Allegations

Summary: Representatives of Gautam Adani have reportedly met with Trump-era officials to resolve US bribery charges involving Adani Green Energy bonds.

Recently, business tycoon Gautam Adani’s representatives have reportedly reached out to Donald Trump's administration officials in hopes of resolving ongoing legal troubles

This is because Gautam Adani and his nephew, Sagar Adani, were allegedly charged with bribery in November 2024 in the United States for allegedly participating in a plot to obtain contracts for electricity delivery in India. In addition, related to the indictment, Adani Green Energy raised $750 million through a bond offering while deceiving investors about its anti-bribery measures.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Adani's team believes the charges are not aligned with the policy direction of the current U.S. administration and is advocating for the case to be dropped. These discussions reportedly began earlier this year and have picked up pace recently. If talks continue smoothly, a resolution could be reached within the next few weeks.

The Adani Group and US government organisations like the Department of Justice have not made the discussions public. Adani Group shares, particularly Adani Total Gas, rose in the stock market as a result of the disclosure of these discussions.

The Adani Group has maintained its innocence, citing an internal review that revealed no misconduct. Still, the dispute has caused a considerable drop in investor confidence and the company's market value.

As discussions progress, the outcome could have major implications for Adani’s international image and future operations.
