At least 26 People Died in the Pahalgam Terror Attack; the Government Plans Swift Action

Summary: In Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists attacked, killing 26 people and injuring 10. The Indian government promises to be fair.

On April 22, 2025, a terrorist attack in the Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, led to the deaths of at least 26 individuals, including tourists and a resident, and injured 10 others. One of the scariest attacks on civilians in the area in recent years occurred when the attackers, who were two to three terrorists, opened fire on a group of tourists.

Among the victims were a father-son duo and a State Bank of India staffer from Gujarat, as well as a newly married Indian Navy officer from Haryana. During the assault, the attackers, who were camouflaged and carrying AK-47 rifles and M4 carbines, fired about 70 shots.

The group "Kashmir Resistance" claimed responsibility for the attack, citing opposition to the settlement of outsiders in the region. The Indian government has responded by tightening security throughout the Kashmir Valley. Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited the scene of the incident, spoke with survivors and the relatives of the victims, and gave his word that those involved would face consequences.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi returned to New Delhi to hold a high-level security conference after shortening his trip to Saudi Arabia. The government has pledged a strong response to the tragedy and reaffirmed its commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety of its citizens.

The international leaders have condemned the attack and shown solidarity for India, including US President Donald Trump. This shows they are with India throughout all this.

Security personnel have begun a manhunt to find the culprits, and investigations are still underway. After a period of relative tranquilly and a rise in tourism in recent years, the incident has sparked worries about the return of terrorist activity in the area.
