Bomb Threats in Delhi: 23 bomb threat emails were sent to schools.
Summary: Class 12th boy is detained for sending 23 bomb threat emails to different schools.
The city police came across a carefully planned attempt by a kid to miss school examinations, weeks after a series of bomb hoaxes caused alarm at dozens of Delhi schools.
After learning that the Class 12 student was responsible for the bomb threats that kept the entire city government on high alert for several days, they detained him.
Ankit Chauhan, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in South Delhi, informed ANI that the suspect had threatened various Delhi schools with the last 23 emails. He was quoted as saying, “During interrogation, he admitted that he had sent threat emails earlier as well.”
At least six times, he had threatened schools with bomb threats, except for his own. Officials claimed he once sent a mail to 23 schools, adding that he always tagged several schools in the letter to avoid suspicions.
According to the reports, he did not want to attend the examinations and hence, set up a plan to issue bomb threats in hopes that the exams would be cancelled.
In recent weeks, police have been on high alert due to dozens of bomb hoaxes; former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal has stated that Delhi has never had such a poor law and order situation.
While sniffer dogs and the bomb squad occupied campuses, students were sent back. At the end of the day, nothing unusual would be found, but a day would be wasted by giving the students a surprise holiday.
The city police are also preparing teachers and school personnel to handle such emergencies due to the frequent occurrence of fake threats. The police and the education department organized a lecture on how to deal with these kinds of situations.
