According to OpenAI, anyone in the world can interact with ChatGPT by calling the new number, 1-800-242-8478.
In the last few days, the company has revealed many new items, including the WhatsApp chatbot, as part of a 12-day launch spree.
Meta has added several new features to WhatsApp to improve the messaging experience and make discussions more lively and participatory. The most awaited improvement is the new Typing Indicator, where users can see who’s typing in group and one-on-one chats.
WhatsApp also revealed that after May 2025, it will not support previous versions of iOS. Users with iOS versions older than 15.1 should upgrade to continue the usage of the app.
ChatGPT does not require an account, which is logical for phone calls; however, OpenAI intends to find a way to integrate ChatGPT with an existing WhatsApp account, allowing users to access their previous chat history. OpenAI guarantees that ChatGPT will never initiate a call or start a chat with you on WhatsApp.
You can test out the WhatsApp chatbot in any country where ChatGPT is available, including India, however, OpenAI has only provided the calling service for users in the US and Canada for the time being.
WhatsApp has a message limit as well, and the app will alert you when you've sent too many messages in a given day.
