Cyclone Fengal: Bengaluru receives heavy rainfall; schools to remain closed till December 2.

Summary: Cyclone Fengal hit the beaches of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, while districts in south interior Karnataka are expected to get severe to extremely heavy rain over the next two days.

A day after making landfall close to Puducherry, Cyclone Fengal weakened on Sunday. Despite this, the union territory experienced the most rainfall in thirty years, and the Army and NDRF were called in to evacuate stranded people from the inundated streets.

Districts in south interior Karnataka are predicted to have severe to extremely heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday as a result of Cyclone Fengal. Bengaluru and the neighboring districts are under an orange alert till Tuesday, December 3, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which predicts that certain places may see more than 100 mm of rain.

Due to the forecast of heavy rain caused by Cyclone Fengal, which may move to the west and northwest after weakening and reach the Kerala-Karnataka coasts as a low-pressure area around December 3, Puducherry's schools and colleges remain closed on Monday, December 2.

In the upcoming days, central Bengaluru is expected to have minimum temperatures of 17 to 18 degrees Celsius. These temperatures might fall to about 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in several areas of North Karnataka. Rainfall was observed in Bengaluru's remote regions as well as in the nearby districts of Kolar, Chikkaballapur, and Bengaluru Rural as of 10.30 am on Sunday.

Due to slow-moving traffic brought on by the severe rains caused by Cyclone Fengal, the Bengaluru City Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory cautioning citizens to drive carefully and slowly.

People are urged to contact the emergency number 112 in the case of an emergency to get immediate help. Also, authorities have advised locals to take the appropriate safety precautions when traveling and to keep up with weather reports.

Bengaluru and the neighboring areas are predicted to have more downpours in the hours ahead; therefore, the severe rain warning remains in effect. In certain parts of the city, the IMD has also forecast mild to moderate showers until December 5.
