Loud Explosion Reported Near Lahore's Walton Airport Amid India-Pakistan Tensions

Summary: The day after India began Operation Sindoor, there was a loud explosion in Lahore.

Residents in the Gopal Nagar and Naseerabad districts of Lahore reported hearing a loud explosion close to Walton Airport early on May 8, 2025. This was just after the Operation Sindoor. Although the precise cause of the explosion is yet unknown, the occurrence was confirmed by local network Geo TV and a Reuters witness.

The explosion occurred a day after India conducted Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation was a response to the terror incident in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 Indian civilians.

Residents panicked and fled their homes after hearing sirens after the blast. It's unclear if the temporary suspension of flight operations at the airports in Lahore, Karachi, and Sialkot had anything to do with the incident.

The situation remains tense, with both nations on high alert. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned India's strikes, asserting the country's right to respond appropriately.
