India and Pakistan Agree to Immediate Ceasefire Following U.S. Mediation

Summary: Following US-mediated discussions, India and Pakistan agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire on May 10, 2025, taking a huge step towards de-escalating recent hostilities.

India and Pakistan have reached a full and immediate ceasefire after talks facilitated by the United States, as announced by President Trump on May 10, 2025. He praised both nations for their wise decision.

Trump posted this on his X handle: "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Congratulations to both countries on using common sense and great intelligence."

The truce comes after a series of high-stress events between the two countries, including India's Operation Sindoor and Pakistan's counter-operation, Bunyan-al-Marsoos, which resulted in heavy casualties and infrastructure damage on both sides.

Ishaq Dar, Pakistan's foreign minister, confirmed the deal and highlighted Pakistan's support for regional security and stability.

To discuss underlying matters and prevent future crises, the United States said that both nations will negotiate on several topics at a neutral location.

The international community is calling for further talks to ensure long-term regional peace and has praised the accord as a significant development in India-Pakistan relations.
