Jio experienced a decline of 10.9 million subscribers in just one quarter.

Summary: Reliance Jio loses 10.9 subscribers in a single quarter but is still ahead of its rivals.

Reliance Jio recently reported its second-quarter data, which revealed that about 10.9 million consumers departed the network during the period. The recent hike in Jio's recharge plan costs caused this loss.

The company's overall performance still goes solid, so the decline in subscribers doesn't seem to be a big deal. Its average revenue per user (ARPU), which was stable at Rs 181.7 for many quarters, suddenly increased to Rs 195.1 in a single quarter, while the number of its 5G subscribers jumped from 130 million to 147 million. The telecom's net profit increased to Rs 6,536 crore as a result.

Jio's customer count grew 4.2% year over year, even though its entire user base decreased QoQ. Dependency Jio stated that the business will not be deterred by the loss of subscribers because it anticipates seeing the full effects of the rate hike during the next two to three quarters. To link more houses with its FWA (fixed-wireless access) service, the telecom is continuing to expand the coverage of its 5G networks.

Reports suggest that Reliance Jio is dominating in three key areas:

  • Jio’s download speed is an impressive 89.5 Mbps, more than its rivals Airtel (44.2 Mbps) and Vi (16.9 Mbps), the lowest of all. Hence, Jio is becoming the top choice for the users who want fast internet speed for gaming, streaming, and surfing.

  • Reliance Jio gives coverage all over India, including the rural areas. Millions of Indians have been connected because of the telco's vast infrastructure, particularly in rural areas where reliable mobile connections are often limited.

  • With a network consistency score of 66.5%, Jio beat its competitors and provided a steady and uninterrupted experience for voice calls as well as data services.
