Mahakumbh Stampede: Amrit Snan called off after the stampede, many feared dead.

Summary: Many devotees are seriously injured after a stampede broke out at Mahakumbh.

A stampede broke out at the Sangam on Wednesday (January 29, 2025) amid the ongoing Maha Kumbh, when many pilgrims gathered for a Amrit Snan on Mauni Amavasya, raising fears of several casualties, officials claimed.

In order to assess the stampede scenario in the Mahakumbh, PM Modi spoke with CM Yogi twice in a single hour. But today's Amrit Snan in the Mahakumbh has been temporarily halted as a precaution.

Numerous people have reportedly been injured in the stampede that occurred close to Sangam Nose. By creating a green lane, the wounded were transported by ambulance to the Central Hospital Mahakumbh, where they are currently receiving care.

Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, has made an appeal to the devotees following the stampede at the Mahakumbh mela. He said to devotees, “सभी पूज्य संतों, श्रद्धालुओं, प्रदेश एवं देश वासियों से मेरी अपील है कि अफवाह पर कोई ध्यान न दें, संयम से काम लें, प्रशासन आप सभी की सेवा के लिए तत्परता से कार्य कर रहा हैI”

(Translation: Take bath near the ghat of Maa Ganga. Do not try to go towards Sangam Nose. Many bathing ghats have been built for bathing. One can take bath there as well. Follow the instructions of the administration and cooperate in making arrangements. Do not pay attention to any rumours.)

The number of fatalities from the Mahakumbh stampede has not been made public by the authorities. However, we have heard of some fatalities due to the stampede.

A large crowd assembled at Sangam beach at approximately 1:30 pm during Mahakumbh. Individuals began to feel breathless because of the crowd. Following this, a stampede occurred as a result of the barricades being broken. Over 50 worshippers were harmed as a result.

Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Swami Avdheshanand Giri Maharaj from Juna Akhara announced that the Akhada Parishad, along with all the respected saints, has collectively resolved that the Shobha Yatra will not occur and the Shahi Snan will not happen today.
