Donald Trump Seeks Activation of His Facebook Account after Getting Reinstated on Twitter

The former US President, Donald Trump has asked Meta to review his plea of being unblocked from Facebook after Twitter clears access to his Twitter account in November 2022. Trump is all set to contest in the 2024 elections, because of which his lawyer, Scott Gast, sent a letter to Meta. The letter said that the ban inhibited public discourse and dramatically distorted it. He has also asked for prompt reinstatement of Trump on Facebook, where the latter had 34 million followers.

Gast has sought a meeting to discuss the matter further as he argued that Donald Trump is among the front-runners from the Republicans for the upcoming 2024 elections, and thus, the current ban must be lifted. He also stressed that the continued ban showcases that a private company is deliberately trying to silence the political voice of the former US President.

Following, Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter in a heft deal of USD 44 billion, he lifted the ban on Trump’s social media account, which was earlier halted after an online poll had voted in consent for the move. On Twitter itself, Donald Trump has more than 87 million followers. But the former US President was blocked out of his account and could not tweet after 8 January 2021.

With getting access to his Twitter account, Trump has not asked Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to do the same for him as he has plans to contest in the 2024 elections, and wants to regain his foothold on the social media channels as well. As for Meta, they said that a process is laid out to handle such events, and they will soon announce a decision after a review. The decision can take a few weeks, which was initiated on 7 January with Trump’s account review.

It has been 2 years since the imposition of the ban in January 2021. The social media account of Donald Trump was blocked after he was found encouraging the violent attack by his supporters on the US Capitol in Washington, leading to several deaths and disturbing the certification of the presidential election held in 2020. Trump had also then criticized the election procedure of America calling it worse than that of third-world nations.
