Strict Code of Conduct Imposed on Delhi Capitals After a Player Misbehaves with a Woman at Franchise Party

Just a few days after the incident of a Delhi Capital player misbehaving with a woman at the party organized by the franchise, the IPL (Indian Premier League) issued a Code of Conduct for the players and the support staff. The code is specially to maintain the public image of the franchise and players cannot bring their acquaintances beyond 10 pm to their rooms anymore. And if they wish to entertain their partner or guests, then they can do so at the team hotel’s coffee shop or restaurant.
The support staff and players have to tell the franchise officials about leaving the hotel when going to meet someone. There is a warning along with the advisory after Delhi Capitals won against Hyderabad Sunrisers on Monday. The warning is that anyone who breaches the code will be terminated from the contract or bear a fine. The franchise permits the support staff and players and the team to travel with their wives and girlfriends during the IPL.
But given the code, the support staff and players also have to take care of their partner’s travel expenses and inform the franchise officials before they join the contingent. They need to however inform the IPL team integrity officer before taking any of their partners to the room and submit in advance a photo identification of the person to the team’s management.
This IPL season, Delhi Capitals have won only two out of the initial seven games, having an ordinary stand till now and the last in the points table. In the first step itself, they encountered five consecutive defeats. Also, the kit bags of several players were stolen when they were going to Delhi from Bengaluru. However, after a few days, their equipment was discovered again.
The Code of Conduct does not reflect on any incident in particular. But it states that every member of the Delhi Capitals squad, not just the players but the management and support staff as well prioritizes the objective and vision of the team. It is also mandatory for the players to be present at all the franchise functions. In case they are late, the players have to notify the team staff.
Earlier the franchise had informed the players verbally that they have to maintain punctuality and cannot reach the destination late. If the team wants to narrowly make it to the playoff spot, it cannot afford any distractions off-field. Recently, a win in the last two games gave the players some hope. In the next game on Saturday, they will face the host Sunrisers Hyderabad.
