No more OPTs from November 1 in India? Can this impact online security?
Summary: India’s telecom operator has announced that there will be no OTPs after November 1, which has caused concern among the users.
Numerous concerns have been voiced by Indian telecom providers regarding the new rules that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will implement on November 1.
This new legislation requires the traceability of transactional and service messages from banks, e-commerce sites, and other financial entities that were previously exempt. If the message is interrupted during transmission, it will be filtered out.
The delivery of OTP and other important communications may need to be improved since telemarketers and numerous important institutions (PEs) must get ready to follow these regulations.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority, or TRAI, has been notified of this issue by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), which has requested an extension to implement the new rule.
Members of the COAI include telecom providers like Jio, Airtel, and Voda-Idea. TRAI has instructed the Telecom operators to prevent sending of untraceable messages from PEs to recipients.
Telecom operators have seen that PEs and telemarketers have not yet started putting the necessary technical solutions into practice. Messages with an OTP and other crucial information won't get through in such a scenario.
