PM Modi Grants Military Full Autonomy to Respond to Pahalgam Attack

Summary: Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has authorized the Indian armed forces to determine the timing, targets, and methods of their response.

In the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has empowered the Indian armed forces with complete operational freedom to decide on the mode, targets, and timing of their response against Pakistan.

During a high-level meeting attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and the chiefs of the three armed forces, Modi expressed full confidence in the military's capabilities. He emphasized the nation's resolve to deliver a decisive blow to terrorism and affirmed that the armed forces have his full backing to act as they see fit.

During the Pahalgam attack, the assailants killed Hindus and targeted others based on their religious beliefs. India has accused Pakistan of supporting terrorists in the region after discovering the attackers, two of whom are Pakistani nationals. Pakistan denies this charge and calls for an unbiased investigation.

India terminated the Indus Waters Treaty amid the rising tensions, while Pakistan has blocked Indian flights from using its airspace. There has been continuous cross-border gunfire along the Line of Control, and Indian authorities have stated that hackers headquartered in Pakistan have attempted to breach websites about the military.

To avoid any escalation, the international community, which includes the United States, the United Kingdom, and the United Nations, has encouraged both countries to use caution.

As the situation remains tense, the Indian government's decisive stance underscores its commitment to national security and its determination to respond firmly to acts of terrorism.
