Recharge plans to get cheaper for Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea.

Summary: BSNL gained new subscribers in July and August, while Jio, Airtel, and Vi saw a subsequent decrease in their subscribers after the increase in tariffs on recharge plans.

Effective from July 2024, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea initiated new postpaid and prepaid plans for their users. The tariff was increased in hopes of an increase for a boost of services and investments in 5G technology.

The surge in tariffs caused a huge loss of subscribers, as many switched to BSNL.

Now, as the media portals are suggesting, these private telecom providers may reconsider their recharge plans. The Cellular Operators Body of India (COAI), a trade body that represents telecom companies, has encouraged the government to reduce license costs that telecom operators must pay by

BSNL gained approximately 30 lakh subscribers in July, a significant increase in the consumer base. Nevertheless, the subscriber bases of Vodafone Idea, Airtel, and Reliance Jio shrank.

Data from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) revealed that Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea's customer bases fell by 8 lakh, 17 lakh, and 14 lakh users, respectively.

While Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea lost 40 lakh, 24 lakh, and 19 lakh subscribers, respectively, BSNL's customer base grew by 25 lakh new users in August.

Also, beginning on November 1, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has taken action to prevent fraudulent calls and SMS. As these actions frequently pose a threat to users, the measures would aid in their cessation.

All telecom operators have been asked by the TRAI to strictly follow it. When making calls, a user may notice some modifications.

On November 1, the message traceability feature will be put into action. An anonymous message on users can be investigated. With the help of a few keywords, it can recognize spam calls and emails. If the messages are identified as spam or misleading, they can be blocked. A user can also file a complaint against the sender.
