Summary: Within two days, Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea all announced price hikes for their prepaid and postpaid plans. The new rates and plans seek to provide full benefits to subscribers.
On Thursday, Reliance Jio declared that starting on July 3, its pricing for mobile services will go up. In addition, Airtel on Friday also declared that it was raising the prices of its postpaid and prepaid recharge plans by up to 20 percent.
Vodafone Idea also announced a rate hike a day after Reliance Jio and Airtel raised the costs of their prepaid and postpaid plans. While the Vodafone price increase will take effect on July 4, the Airtel and Reliance Jio plans will increase in cost starting on July 3.
The lowest recharge now costs ₹19, which is almost 27% more than the ₹15 add-on pack for 1 GB of data.
Previously priced at ₹399, the 75 GB postpaid data plan is now available for ₹449. Additionally, Jio increased the cost of the popular ₹666 unlimited plan with an 84-day validity period to ₹799, or around 20% more.
A PTI report claims that Bharti Airtel has insisted that for Indian telecoms to have a financially viable business model, the average revenue per user (ARPU) for mobile devices must be greater than ₹300.
After Jio and Airtel raised their rates during the first week of July, Vodafone Idea is set to increase its mobile service rates by between 10% to 24%. The telecom provider Vodafone Idea (Vi) has announced that on July 4th, mobile charges will increase.
Vodafone Idea has not made any adjustments to the other ₹1,799 and ₹3,099 plans with 365-day validity and data packs.
