Reserve Bank of India Receives Bomb Threat in Russian Language.

Summary: The Reserve Bank of India was threatened with a bomb threat via an email written in Russian.

An email was sent to the Reserve Bank of India, threatening explosive destruction of the Mumbai headquarters. Mumbai Police lodged a case and started investigating following the threat email.

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra's official email address received the threat email, which read, "Will blow you up. "

A senior Mumbai police officer said, “A threatening email was received on the official website of the Reserve Bank of India. The email was in Russian and warned to blow up the bank. A case has been registered against an unknown accused at Mata Ramabai Marg (MRA Marg) police station. An investigation into the matter is underway.”

The email arrived just days after Sanjay Malhotra became the Reserve Bank's 26th Governor, succeeding Shaktikanta Das, who stepped down after six years in office.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, chose Malhotra, an IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre.

This is not the first time, earlier this month a man claiming to be the CEO of Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba threatened the RBI’s customer service in Mumbai via call.

he called the RBI and requested that officers shut down the back road, saying the electric car had broken down.

The Mumbai Police were informed at once, and they searched the area. But nothing shady was discovered.
