Indian captain Rohit Sharma surpassed MS Dhoni's record for most T20 international wins. Rohit reached the milestone after leading India to their 43rd win (one in the Super Over) over Ireland in the T20 World Cup opening at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium.

Rohit has now overtaken MS Dhoni's record of 42 T20I victories as captain. Despite this achievement, Rohit remains fourth on the list of T20I captains with the most wins, trailing Pakistan's Babar Azam (46 wins) and the duo of Brian Masaba and Eoin Morgan (44 wins each).

Rohit Sharma had an excellent start to the T20 World Cup. Aside from the strike to his shoulder, which caused him to retire hurt as a precautionary move, the Indian skipper had a field day against Ireland at the Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York on Wednesday.

Rohit made sound decisions from the beginning and then led by example with a stunning half-century in the chase to help India get off to a winning start in the T20 World Cup.

India chose to bowl first on a pitch that favored fast bowlers, restricting Ireland to a modest 96 runs. The bowling squad put up a rocking performance, with Hardik Pandya, Arshdeep Singh, and Jasprit Bumrah taking three and two wickets, respectively. Their efforts meant that the Ireland batters failed to gain pace in the game.

The combined efforts of Rohit Sharma and Rishabh Pant led India to an easy victory. Rohit took the lead with a fast 37-ball 52, while Pant steadied with an undefeated 36.

Rohit Sharma became the first cricketer to hit 600 sixes in international cricket in just 427 innings. Chris Gayle (553 sixes) in 483 matches and Shahid Afridi (476 sixes) in 524 matches remain in second and third place, respectively.

Rohit also scored over 4000 runs in T20Is, becoming only the second batsman after Virat Kohli to do so in all three formats. Rohit also scored 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup, becoming the second Indian behind Kohli.
