Secunderabad-Shalimar Express train derailed near Howrah; 3 coaches leave the track
Summary: Early Friday morning, the Railways reported that two coaches and one package van of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Express derailed while passing Nalpur station.
This morning, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah, West Bengal. The derailment happened some 40 kilometers near Nalour, Kolkata. However, no casualties have been reported so far.
The Southern Express Railway reported, “A parcel van and two 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express coaches derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 am today. As reported, there is no major injury or casualty.”
Medical relief trains and an accident relief train were immediately sent from Santragachi and Kharagpur to help. Buses were also dispatched to transport the passengers to Kolkata.
Chief Public Relations Officer, Omprakash Charan, said, “At 5:31 am, the Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express train derailed while going from the middle line to the down line. One parcel van and two passenger coaches have derailed. No major injury or casualty has been reported. Around 10 buses have been arranged for passengers for their onward journey.”
According to data supplied by Indian Railways from 17 railway zones, The Hindu stated that 200 significant railway incidents had resulted in 351 deaths and 970 injuries over the past five years.
During an inspection of the PSU Braithwaite and Co. in Kolkata last month, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the number of accidents per year had decreased from 171 ten years ago to 40 at present.
