Stock Market Updates: Sensex gains 100 points, Nifty reaches 23,600.

Summary: The benchmark Indian equity indices BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 began a bit higher on Thursday, with mixed global indications.

 

The BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, two benchmark Indian market indices, began marginally higher on Thursday despite conflicting international signals.

 

The BSE Sensex was up 106 points, or 0.14 percent, at 77,797, while the Nifty 50 was up 26.55 points, or 0.11 percent, at 23,585.

 

More than half of the BSE Sensex's stocks were up 1.31 percent after the opening bell, with HCLTech leading the gains, followed by Sun Pharma, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries, and HDFC Bank. 

 

Power Grid Corp. led the losses, down 2.09 percent, followed by UltraTech Cement, Mahindra & Mahindra, Adani Ports & SEZ, and Axis Bank.

 

34 of the 50 equities on the Nifty 50 were trading higher. With a 6.50 percent gain, Eicher Motors topped the gains, followed by Tata Steel, HCLTech, Axis Bank, and Bajaj Finance. 

 

UltraTech Cement (down 1.01%), BPCL, NTPC, Bharti Airtel, and Titan were the companies with the biggest losses.

 

In the meantime, every index, except FMCG, was rising across industries. The Media index came in second, with the Realty index leading by 1.18 percent. The PSU Bank, Pharma, Metal, Healthcare, and Auto indices were among the other noteworthy winners.

 

The Nifty Midcap 100 was up 0.66 percent and the Nifty Smallcap 100 was up 1.18 percent in the overall markets.
