Stock Market Updates: Sensex and Nifty Down Amid Mixed Signals.

Summary: The Indian Benchmark equity indices, Sensex and Nifty opened in red this morning on Monday.

The benchmark equity indices, the BSE Sensex and the Nifty50 opened the week flat on Monday, reflecting mixed global cues.

The Nifty50 was down 37.50 points, or 0.16%, at 23,522.45, while the BSE Sensex was down 19.36 points, or 0.02%, at 77,840.

Following U.S. President Donald Trump's continued warnings of implementing tariffs on steel and aluminum, Asian stocks fell and the dollar nudged higher on Monday. This inflationary activity may limit rate reductions in the future.

In an interview with reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said he would impose a 25% duty on all imports of steel and aluminum entering the United States on Monday, with further reciprocal penalties to follow on Tuesday or Wednesday.

As investors considered the possible consequences of Trump's most recent tariff threat, which might impede global economic development and energy use, oil prices did not increase significantly on Monday.

At 01:33 GMT, Brent crude futures were up 40 cents, or 0.5%, to $75.06 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was up 38 cents, or 0.5%, at $71.38 a barrel. Despite this surge, the market saw its third straight weekly drop last week due to concerns over a possible global trade war.
