Taylor Swift Eras Tour: Fans scammed of tickets, duped of $300,000.

Summary: Tickets for Taylor Swift's 'Eras Tour' were stolen from hundreds of her fans in Burlington, Ontario.

About 400 people, many of whom were from Burlington, Ontario, appear to have been the victims of a scam that robbed them of $300,000 in total for what they thought were Taylor Swift tickets they were buying in Toronto but never received. Many alleged victims discovered they were not alone in falling for the scam after finding each other online.

When they realized that a scammer acting as a ticket reseller had deceived them of $300,000, several fans from the Burlington, Ontario, area were upset. In an interview with CTV News, victim Annette Newton described how the con artist, who used the Facebook handle, Denise, won the community's trust, took the money, and failed to give anyone tickets to the 'Eras Tour' in Toronto.

She said, “I contacted her directly, and she offered me tickets,” and many others had vouched for her credibility. The scammer claimed she had 'company tickets' from a third-party reseller. The mother of four allegedly paid about $2,500 for four tickets, promising they would come a few days before Swift's performance on November 15 as a Christmas present for her girls.

On the day, though, the con artist informed Newton that the tickets were "unavailable."  "She said her corporate guy didn’t come through and that there was nothing she could do."

The ticket fraud is currently under investigation by the Halton Regional Police, as they have received "multiple complaints" about it. Halton Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit spokesperson Jeff Dillon cautioned the public about the fraud and advised them to "be vigilant when purchasing tickets."

In an attempt to give their kids an early Christmas present—the opportunity to see the event live—many victims, including parents, reportedly fell for the scam.
