Trump Warns Iran Amid Plans for Direct Nuclear Talks

Summary: President Trump announces direct nuclear negotiations with Iran, warning of serious consequences if failed.

President Donald Trump revealed plans for direct talks with Iran concerning its nuclear program, emphasizing that failure to reach an agreement could place Iran in "great danger." After a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump said that conversations will begin on Saturday.

Trump indicated that the negotiations would occur "at almost the highest level," however, he is yet to specify the location or the officials involved. He emphasized the United States' determination to keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons by saying, "Tehran can't get nuclear weapons."

Although he said he would prefer a diplomatic solution to military action, Trump did not rule out the latter in the event that negotiations are fruitless. He remarked, "Doing a deal would be preferable to doing the obvious," and warned, "If the talks aren't successful, I think it's going to be a very bad day for Iran."

During his visit to the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his support for the US's diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. They discussed regional disputes and global tariffs.

These Middle Eastern tensions fueled this move and the United States' exit from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal during Trump's first term. The planned meetings represent a significant shift in US policy, with the intention of openly addressing long-held concerns about Iran's nuclear ambitions.
