The US Vice President JD Vance Lands in India on a Four-Day Tour.

Summary: US Vice President JD Vance visits India for trade negotiations and tariff concerns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a four-day visit, U.S. Vice President JD Vance arrived in New Delhi on April 21, 2025, to discuss ongoing trade negotiations with India and strengthen bilateral ties. His schedule includes meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to review progress on the bilateral agenda established during Modi's February meeting with President Donald Trump. Expanding defense cooperation and improving trade fairness are key issues.

At present, India is trying to negotiate lower tariffs on more than half of its U.S. imports, which came to $41.8 billion in 2024. This will create a more balanced trade relationship between India and the U.S. tariffs will be avoided. The conversations are a part of larger attempts to complete a trade deal by the fall of 2025.

Vance's visit, which also consists of personal engagements such as attending a wedding in Jaipur and visiting the Taj Mahal, is a preparatory step for President Trump's anticipated visit later this year for the Quad summit.

The outcome of these meetings will highly influence the trajectory of US-India trade relations in the coming months.
