Summary: Earlier this year, Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 faced a box office clash, resulting in both films becoming successful. Sunny Deol realized that this clash could have impacted their success and took proactive steps to prevent potential competition.

Sunny Deol and Akshay Kumar saw their films, Gadar 2 and OMG 2, clash at the box office without any negative consequences, but the situation held the potential for problems. Sunny was fully aware of the potential disaster and took proactive steps to avoid it. During the second episode of Koffee with Karan in season eight, Sunny revealed to host Karan Johar that he personally reached out to Akshay and asked if he could consider changing the release date for OMG 2. However, Akshay explained that it was beyond his control.

Karan Johar commended Sunny for revitalizing the single-screen cinema experience with Gadar 2, which came more than two decades after the original Gadar had left a significant mark in a time before multiplexes were widespread. When asked whether he reached out to Akshay regarding the upcoming clash, Sunny mentioned, "Of course, I inquired. I told him, 'If it's possible, please avoid it.' But he explained that it was beyond his control, mentioning the studio's involvement."

Sunny mentioned that he was informed that it was feasible for two films to have simultaneous releases at the box office without negatively impacting each other. He expressed his willingness to accommodate this approach, stating, "I said, 'Sure, go ahead. I can only make a request, but I can't do more than that.'"

Interestingly, a similar scenario occurred in the past when the original Gadar clashed with Aamir Khan's Lagaan in 2001. Despite Lagaan receiving critical acclaim and even earning an Oscar nomination, Gadar emerged as the more significant commercial success, ultimately ranking as the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film of the year worldwide, following Karan's Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.

While Bollywood often sees films struggle in box office clashes, both Gadar 2 and OMG 2 defied this trend and became commercial successes. These movies helped Sunny Deol and Akshay Kumar regain their footing at the box office, with Gadar 2 grossing over Rs 600 crore globally and OMG 2 earning more than Rs 200 crore worldwide. It's important to note that Akshay had an extended cameo in OMG 2, and the film was led by Pankaj Tripathi.
